Health Canada Issues Notice of Danger for Products with Button Batteries

Health Canada has added consumer products containing button or coin batteries, and their packaging, to Table 3 of the General Prohibitions under the CCPSA. From 18 September 2026, non‑compliant products are prohibited from manufacture, import, advertising or sale in Canada.
Health Canada has published a Notice of danger to human health or safety and risk mitigation covering consumer products that contain button or coin batteries, as well as the packaging of button and coin batteries sold on their own. Health Canada's assessment found that these products can pose an ingestion hazard, and they have now been added to Table 3 of General Prohibitions under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
As of 18 September 2026, it is prohibited to manufacture, import, advertise or sell in Canada any consumer product containing a button or coin battery that does not meet Health Canada's specified safety criteria:
